Amahagan Edition Peated is the fifth regular release in Nagahama's World Malt range. The blend brings together Nagahama's own malt and imported peated and unpeated malt whiskies; part of the blend then undergoes further maturation in bourbon casks. Released in July 2021, this edition was the first in the range to place a clear emphasis on smoke.

Bottled at 47%, this whisky combines peat smoke with baked fruit, fresh citrus notes and toasted malt. Its bittersweet character complements this combination of smoke and fruit. The whisky is bottled without added colouring and without chill filtration.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Baked apple and ripe peach initially lead on the nose. Fresh mint and herbal notes then emerge, followed by toasted malt, smoky peat and a subtle hint of iodine.
• Palate: The whisky opens freshly on the palate with juicy grapefruit. Smoky and toasted notes then unfold, with finely textured smoke.
• Finish: The finish is sweet yet slightly bitter. Candyfloss and Japanese Wasanbon sugar give it a delicate, melt-in-the-mouth sweetness.

Distillery/Bottler:

Nagahama Distillery began operating in November 2016 on the premises of Roman Beer in Shiga Prefecture. It is located in Nagahama beside Lake Biwa. Its small alembic stills, inspired by Scottish craft distilleries, have particularly narrow pipes connecting them to the condenser. The distillery's own malt has a rich, fruity character and a cereal sweetness.

For Amahagan, Nagahama combines its own malt production with selected imported malt whiskies. The brand name reads Nagahama backwards. For Edition Peated, the selection and blending of peated and unpeated components shape this blending work.
