Chichibu Angels is a twelve-year-old Calvados Pays d’Auge finished in casks that previously held Japanese Chichibu Single Malt. Christian Drouin blended twelve-year-old Calvados parcels, then matured the blend for a further four to ten months in five former Chichibu casks. Part of the Experimental series, the name Chichibu identifies the finish casks, not the Calvados’s origin.

Alongside the apple fruit are subtle wood notes and dry grain tones. Roasted apple and quince jam shape the nose, while apple peel, barley husk and citrus emerge on the palate. In 2025, 2,082 bottles were filled at 45.3%.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, roasted apple and quince jam develop into subtle wood notes and a powdery grain accent.
• Palate: On the palate, barley husk, apple peel and citrus come together in an intense, clearly defined impression.
• Finish: The finish is medium-long to long, with lingering citrus and apple peel accompanied by a subtle grain dryness.

Distillery/Bottler:

Christian Drouin’s story began in 1960 on a farm with cider-apple trees near Gonneville-sur-Honfleur. With the help of distiller Pierre Pivet, Christian Drouin senior distilled cider there and initially left the Calvados to mature rather than selling it straight away. His son began marketing the accumulated stocks in 1979. In the early 1990s, production moved to Coudray-Rabut in the Pays d’Auge.

Guillaume Drouin now represents the third generation of the family business. The house distils its cider twice for Calvados Pays d’Auge; Guillaume and his father decide on further maturation and blending after tasting the casks. For Chichibu Angels, Christian Drouin is the producer, original bottler and brand owner. The Calvados spent its finishing period in casks previously used for Chichibu whisky.
