Volume: 0.7 litres | Alcohol content: 57% | Chill filtration: No | Colouring: No
Special Features:
At the heart of this Limited Edition are two key components with carefully selected secondary maturation: whisky from bourbon casks finished in apple brandy casks, and spirit from re-charred ex-shochu casks finished in white wine casks. Sherry-cask components add further complexity, while gradual dilution contributes gentle depth. The composition also includes a small proportion of peated spirit; the overall style nevertheless remains non-smoky, as neither smoke nor peat stands out in the described aroma profile.
Orange blossom, Hamago blossom, apple peel and white grapes open the fresh profile. Vanilla, honey, sweet yuzu paste and a fruity touch of apple brandy follow, before grapefruit, apple peel and a gentle sea breeze shape the long finish.
The whisky is bottled at 57% in a 0.7-litre bottle. It is non-chill-filtered, contains no added colouring and comes in a gift box.
Tasting Notes:
- Nose: Orange blossom, Hamago blossom, fresh apple peel and white grapes define the nose.
- Palate: Vanilla, honey, sweet yuzu paste and a fruity touch of apple brandy shape the palate.
- Finish: The finish is long and fresh, fading with grapefruit, apple peel and a gentle sea breeze.
Distillery/Bottler:
Kanosuke Distillery is located in Hioki on the west coast of Kagoshima Prefecture, overlooking the East China Sea. Yoshitsugu Komasa founded it in 2017 on land he took over from his grandfather and named it after Kanosuke Komasa. In 1957, Kanosuke had released Mellowed Kozuru, a rice shochu matured in oak casks for six years. The family’s history of spirits production dates back to 1883.
Kanosuke uses long fermentation and three pot stills whose different neck shapes and lyne-arm angles make it possible to create distinct spirit characters. For maturation, the distillery employs various storage conditions and cask types, including re-charred casks that previously held rice shochu. The spirits for Kanosuke Single Malt - 2026 Limited Edition are produced in Hioki, married there and bottled by the distillery.
