Special Features:

In this limited edition, the proportion of whisky from Sherry casks exceeds 60%. At its core are components matured for 3.5 to 5 years in Oloroso casks and whiskies from Cream Sherry casks: Oloroso contributes body and structure, while Cream Sherry adds a rounder sweetness. Additional components from re-charred shochu casks introduce a spicy Japanese “wa” nuance, while a small proportion from new American white oak adds notes of vanilla and oak.

During development, the blending team assessed various Sherry-cask components and deliberately chose to combine Oloroso and Cream Sherry. This bottling was Ryota Kamino’s first product in his role as Main Blender and head of the blending team. The whisky is bottled at 48% in a 0.7-litre bottle; it is non-chill-filtered and contains no added colouring.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose reveals dark cherry, vanilla, Japanese cinnamon and raspberry.
• Palate: On the palate, gentle raisins, dark chocolate, clove and lychee mingle with rich fruitcake.
• Finish: Tropical mangosteen gives way to subtle, finely bitter oak dryness and a long aftertaste.

Distillery/Bottler:

Yoshitsugu Komasa founded Kanosuke Distillery in 2017 in Hioki, Kagoshima Prefecture, on land belonging to his grandfather. Representing the family’s fourth generation, he applied the house’s experience in shochu production to whisky making. Long fermentations and three differently shaped pot stills create a range of distillate characters that Kanosuke combines in its vattings. The single malt is produced by the distillery and released as an official bottling.
