For Tenjaku Pure Malt Sherry Cask, Master Blender Kenji Watanabe brings together four malt whiskies aged three, five, eight and twelve years. Here, “Pure Malt” refers to its composition from malt whiskies; the four ages do not constitute a single age statement for the bottle.

The malt whiskies first matured in ex-bourbon casks, then received a sherry cask finish of at least six months before bottling. The four maturation periods contribute different components to the blend, while the sherry cask gives it a full-bodied sweetness. Tenjaku uses water from the Misaka mountain range in Yamanashi to bring the whisky to bottling strength.

At 43% ABV, the malt remains discernible alongside ripe fruit and sherry sweetness. The whisky has a velvety texture; fruit and soft cask notes carry through its long finish. This limited edition comes in gift packaging and contains no added colouring.

Distillery/Bottler:

Minami Alps Wine and Beverage Co., Ltd. was founded in Yamanashi Prefecture in 2012 and established a facility in Fuefuki that same year. The company works with its own beverage brands, blending and bottling. For Tenjaku, Master Blender Kenji Watanabe draws on his experience with whisky and wine: he repeatedly noses and tastes the individual whiskies before bringing them together in a blend. Fuefuki lies at the foot of the Misaka mountain range, the source of the water used to bring Tenjaku to bottling strength.
