Togouchi Rum Cask Finish is a Japanese blend made from 15% malt whisky and 85% grain whisky produced from unmalted barley. All of its whisky components are distilled and matured in Japan before being combined there.

Bourbon casks are used for the initial maturation, during which the whisky rests in a former railway tunnel. It is then finished for at least 18 months in Jamaican rum casks.

The distillery teams coordinated the finishing period with the bottling strength. At 43%, this is the first blend in the Togouchi range to be bottled at this strength. Introduced in 2025, it was released in limited quantities.

Vanilla and creamy pastry notes shape its gentle, sweet profile.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, pastry notes are reminiscent of vanilla.
• Palate: The palate offers a soft, gentle sweetness.
• Finish: The long, complex finish combines caramelised sweetness with the pronounced character of rum.

Distillery/Bottler:

SAKURAO Brewery and Distillery Co., Ltd. was founded in 1918 in Sakurao, in the city of Hatsukaichi, Hiroshima. The present-day SAKURAO DISTILLERY was established in 2017 and draws on the company’s long experience of producing sake, shochu and other spirits when making whisky and gin.

The distillery produces both malt and grain whisky for Togouchi. The components are distilled and matured in Japan before being combined into the final blend. A 361-metre former railway tunnel, maintained at approximately 14°C and around 80% humidity, serves as the maturation site.
