Togouchi Kiwami brings together malt and grain whisky from Sakurao Distillery. The blend contains just under 20% malted barley and is distilled, matured in oak casks and blended entirely in Japan. Nutty and grassy notes lead into a sweet palate with delicate spice. The 0.7-litre bottle contains whisky at 40% alcohol and comes in a gift box.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose is bright and elegant, with walnut and grass.
• Palate: Hazelnut, chocolate and honey combine with white pepper on the palate, creating a sweet impression with delicate spice.
• Finish: The subtle finish fades with spice and nutmeg.

Distillery/Bottler:

Sakurao Brewery and Distillery Co., Ltd. makes Togouchi Kiwami in Japan and bottles the blend itself. Opened in 2017, Sakurao Distillery is in Hatsukaichi on the Seto Inland Sea. Its team draws on more than a century of sake and shōchū production. For its malt whiskies, the distillery first uses an adapted pot still, followed by a hybrid still for the second distillation. Its barley grain whisky first passes through a still previously used for shōchū, then through a specially developed column still. The Togouchi casks are stored in an underground cellar at Akiota-Togouchi, where conditions slow extraction from the wood.
