Bananas from Ecuador provide the fruit base for this liqueur from Joseph Cartron. Their flavours are extracted through maceration: the fruit steeps in alcohol, releasing its flavour into the liquid. The liqueur combines a pronounced banana character with a smooth texture and marked sweetness. It is made in France and bottled at 25% in a 0.7-litre bottle.
Tasting Notes:
Nose: The nose is open and distinctly fruit-forward. A sweet aroma combines freshly mashed and overripe banana with hints of banana sweets.
Palate: The liqueur opens freshly on the palate, with banana immediately apparent. The texture is rounded, creamy and slightly oily. Marked sweetness meets pronounced citrus-like acidity and the flavour of banana sweets.
Finish: The finish feels soft. Banana sweets and light acidity linger.
Distillery/Bottler:
Joseph Cartron founded the company in 1882 in Nuits-Saint-Georges, Burgundy. Alongside supplying local hospitality establishments with lemonade and soda water, the house began making various liqueurs early in its history, including sloe, cocoa and caraway liqueurs. Double Crème de Cassis played a particularly important role in its history. Today, the range includes fruit liqueurs, fruit spirits, Marc and Fine de Bourgogne, linking fruit processing with the region’s winemaking tradition.
