Loch Gorm 2026 brings together whisky from 23 Oloroso sherry butts supplied by Bodega José y Miguel Martín, in which it matured entirely for at least ten years. Kilchoman selected 20 fresh first-fill butts and three refill butts for the edition, which was bottled at 46%.

The 20 first-fill butts contribute abundant cask aromas and tannin-led intensity within the peat smoke. The gentler influence of the three refill butts balances this effect with dark chocolate and orange peel. Together, the casks unite dried fruit, nuts and spices with Kilchoman’s peat smoke and citrus profile. Kilchoman specifies a peat level of 50 ppm for this edition. The whisky has a natural colour and was bottled without chill filtration.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, dried red fruit, grilled meat and toasted walnuts mingle with dense peat smoke.
• Palate: On the palate, candied orange and tropical fruit meet salted caramel and prunes. Warming cinnamon, nutmeg and powerful, well-integrated smoke provide structure.
• Finish: The lingering finish combines spices with toasted dark chocolate and liquorice, accompanied by balanced peat smoke.

Distillery/Bottler:

Kilchoman bottles its single malts at the distillery, and Loch Gorm 2026 is an official distillery bottling. This annual limited edition matures exclusively in Oloroso sherry casks. Its name refers to Loch Gorm, Islay’s largest freshwater loch, which lies beside the distillery. One of its main tributaries, Allt Gleann Osamail, supplies Kilchoman with its production water.

Anthony and Kathy Wills founded Kilchoman in 2005 as a family-run farm distillery. The company grows its own barley around the distillery at Rockside Farm and continues to practise traditional floor malting; distillation, maturation and bottling also take place on site. The 90-hour fermentation encourages fruity and creamy, buttery notes, while the small stills provide intensive contact with copper.
