Special Features:
An orange wine finish distinguishes this Ben Nevis in the KIRSCH DRAGON series. Distilled in 2017, the single malt underwent its final maturation in First Fill Orange Wine Cask number 6. Orange wine is made from white grapes fermented with extended skin contact. Here, the choice of cask brings together an oily Highland character and fruity, spicy and wine-like impressions.
Signatory Vintage bottled the whisky on 3 July 2026 after nine years of maturation. Cask number 6 yielded 306 bottles at a cask strength of 59%. The whisky contains no added colouring and is not chill-filtered. The 0.7-litre bottle comes with a tube; both feature the edition's dragon motif. The concept draws on Scottish legends of dragon-like mythical creatures.
Tasting Notes:
- Nose: Ripe apples and pears emerge first, followed by orange peel and dried citrus notes. Delicate malt accompanies the fruit, while ginger and pepper add subtle spicy accents.
- Palate: On the palate, caramel sweetness and malt combine with apple, pear and orange. Pronounced oak, cinnamon and pepper complement the profile, which also reveals a wine-like note.
- Finish: The long, dry finish leaves bitter orange peel and distinct oak spice. Dark fruit and cocoa round out the aftertaste.
Distillery/Bottler:
Ben Nevis stands on the edge of Fort William, beneath the mountain of the same name in the western Highlands. The distillery was founded in 1825 by “Long John” McDonald. Alongside single malt for bottlings under its own name, it supplies whisky for blends such as Dew of Ben Nevis. Ben Nevis produced the spirit for this edition, with Signatory Vintage responsible as the independent bottler.
Andrew Symington founded Signatory Vintage with his brother in 1988. Its first bottling was a Glenlivet distilled in 1968. Individual casks and their distinctive characters were already central to the company's approach. After acquiring Edradour distillery in 2002, Symington completed the relocation of the business to its site near Pitlochry by 2007. There, he developed additional warehousing for the cask stocks.
