Sauternes Hogshead No. 7 gives this smoky Caol Ila a sweet counterpoint. Distilled in 2014, the single malt matured for 11 years before being bottled in 2026 as a single-cask release for the Nectar & Kirsch edition.

This collaboration between Signatory Vintage and The Nectar was released to mark The Nectar’s 20th anniversary. The whisky was bottled at 53% cask strength, without chill filtration or added colouring. Each bottle contains 0.7 litres.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Pronounced smoke and salty maritime notes mingle with honey and vanilla on the nose. Citrus fruit adds a fresh accent.
• Palate: On the palate, bold smoke and delicate pepper spice sit alongside creamy vanilla and bright citrus notes. Subtle oak gives the flavour structure.
• Finish: The long finish remains smoky and salty, with a gentle honey sweetness lingering.

Distillery/Bottler:

Caol Ila has stood on Islay’s north-east coast since 1846. When the distillery was rebuilt in the early 1970s, its six stills were replicated from the earlier design. Its malt comes from Port Ellen and its water from Loch nam Ban.

Founded in Belgium in 2006, The Nectar began by selecting whiskies and later expanded into other spirits. It works with Signatory Vintage on this Caol Ila edition. The independent Scottish bottler was founded by Andrew Symington in 1988 and selects whiskies for its own releases.
