Caol lIa 14y.o Obscurities & Curiosities - North Star

Volume: 0.7 litres | Alcohol content: 48.5% ABV | Chill filtration: No

Special Features:

This Caol Ila was distilled in April 2011 and bottled in August 2025 after 14 years. North Star Spirits combined the whisky from three refill hogsheads into a small batch for the Obscurities & Curiosities range and bottled it at 48.5%.

Gentle bonfire smoke and sea air meet citrus peel, lemon oil and smoked malt. Salted caramel and warm spice lead into driftwood, peat and mineral coastal notes that shape the long, dry finish.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, sea air and citrus peel mingle with gentle bonfire smoke.
• Palate: On the palate, smoked malt and salted caramel meet lemon oil and warm spice.
• Finish: The long, dry finish recalls driftwood and peat before fading with mineral coastal notes.

Distillery/Bottler:

Caol Ila Distillery, founded on Islay in 1846, produced this single malt. When the distillery was rebuilt in the early 1970s, six stills were recreated in the same shape to preserve the character of the spirit.

North Star Spirits was founded in Glasgow by Iain Croucher in 2016 and operates as an independent, family-run bottler. The company selects Scotch whiskies and brought together the whisky from three refill hogsheads for this small-batch edition. Caol Ila’s preserved still geometry thus meets a selection whose character combines smoke, citrus and maritime minerality.
