Coomara brings Irish poitín tradition together with an interpretation designed for cocktails and long drinks. It has an alcohol content of 40% and comes in a 0.7-litre bottle. Malty and fruity notes meet pepper and a creamy, gentle mouthfeel.

The name comes from the Irish tale The Soul Cages. In the story, the merman Coomara and an Irishman named Jack become friends and share stories about their lives over a glass of poitín. The Celtic heart on the label reflects this idea of connection and shared enjoyment.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose reveals malt and dried fruit with a light sweetness.
• Palate: On the palate, malt and fruit notes combine with coarse pepper. The mouthfeel is creamy and gentle.
• Finish: The finish is pleasantly dry and leaves a delicate spicy note.

Distillery/Bottler:

Coomara was founded by brand developer Gary Gartland and food consultant Bronagh Conlon. They established the company in Drogheda in 2013 and commissioned West Cork Distillers in Union Hall to produce the spirit. The initial launch included two flavoured versions alongside the original poitín. By deliberately choosing a drinking strength of 40% and encouraging its use in mixed drinks, the founders aimed to introduce the traditional spirit to a new audience.
