Special Features:

This Glenrothes spent its entire 30-year maturation in first-fill Oloroso sherry butt number 6979. It was distilled on 5 June 1995 and bottled on 2 February 2026 at an undiluted cask strength of 54.6%.

Andrew Symington personally selected the single cask. Signatory Vintage released the whisky as Symington's Choice in the Cask Strength Collection; the bottling comprises 487 bottles and is neither coloured nor chill-filtered.

The long Oloroso maturation shapes the whisky with a dense combination of mature dried fruit, dark cherries and candied citrus peel. Chocolate and roasted nuts complement the fruit, while spice and oak give the long finish a subtly bitter structure.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Mature sultanas, figs and orange peel dominate the nose. Chocolate, dark cherries, polished oak and gentle spice complete the aroma.
• Palate: The whisky is full-bodied and powerful on the palate. Concentrated sherry notes and mature fruit combine with roasted nuts and restrained spice.
• Finish: The finish is long, carrying raisins and figs. Fine oak spice and subtly bitter cocoa emerge towards the end.

Distillery/Bottler:

The Glenrothes Distillery in Rothes produced this Speyside single malt. The distillery draws its water from four springs on its own grounds and distils comparatively slowly in tall stills. The prolonged contact with copper helps create a bright, fruit-led new-make character.

Andrew Symington founded Signatory Vintage as an independent bottler in 1988. By 2007, the company had transferred its entire operation to Edradour Distillery in Pitlochry and focuses on transparently documented cask selections. For this bottling, Symington personally selected butt number 6979; Signatory subsequently bottled the whisky matured in it at cask strength.
