Special Features:

Fresh sugarcane juice is the basis of SAMPAN Classic White Rhum. The sugarcane comes from Vietnam's Quang Nam province. After fermentation, its juice is distilled in a French copper column at Distillerie d'Indochine. The rum is then slowly diluted with water to its bottling strength of 43%. It is produced in small batches without additives.

Blossoms and fruity freshness define the character of this white rum. Unusual hints of butter croissant and ginger chutney add further interest, while herbs and orchard fruit shape the finish. The rum can be enjoyed neat or used as an aromatic base for a Daiquiri. The 0.7-litre bottle comes without gift packaging.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, white cherry blossoms and violets mingle with candyfloss and strips of mango. Fresh sugarcane is also clearly discernible.
• Palate: On the palate, intense floral aromas sit alongside fresh fruit. Notes of butter croissant and ginger chutney add pastry flavours and spice. Jasmine adds a further floral accent.
• Finish: The long finish reveals fresh herbs and orchard fruit. Subtle walnut and pepper notes add to the finish.

Distillery/Bottler:

Distillerie d'Indochine was founded in 2018 by Antoine, Ian and Julien. It lies around 15 kilometres south of Hoi An on Vietnam's central coast, between the sea and sugarcane fields. Antoine Poircuitte is responsible for distillation and maturation. He comes from a family of distillers and took part in the family's annual distillation from childhood.

Collaboration with local sugarcane farmers begins in the field: the plants are selected according to defined requirements and grown without chemical treatments or pesticides. After harvesting by hand, the sugarcane is pressed within 24 hours. Fermentation of the juice is followed by distillation in an all-copper column from France. The brand name SAMPAN refers to a traditional Southeast Asian coastal boat, which also appears on the bottle labels.
