Special Features:

Oloroso sherry casks shape Tamdhu 12 Year Old throughout its maturation, rather than just during a final finishing period. Both first-fill casks and refill casks previously used to mature whisky are selected. These are made from American and European oak; the greater influence of American oak gives this expression a comparatively lighter character.

After twelve years, the single malt is bottled at 43%. Its colour develops without added colouring. The 0.7-litre bottle comes in black-and-gold gift packaging with a display window.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose recalls iced cinnamon rolls and orange sweets, joined by sweet oak, raisins and a delicate hint of mint.
• Palate: The whisky coats the mouth with a silky texture. Banana, berry jam and malt biscuits combine with pronounced sherry and oak notes.
• Finish: The long, balanced finish brings together ground spices, dried fruit and the sweetness of Scottish Tablet, a Scottish sugar confection. A very subtle trace of peat smoke emerges at the very end.

Distillery/Bottler:

Tamdhu lies near Knockando in Speyside, close to the River Spey. A group of blending entrepreneurs founded the distillery in 1897, with distillery architect Charles Doig providing the design. For many years, its whisky went mainly into blends such as The Famous Grouse and Cutty Sark. Ian Macleod Distillers acquired the distillery in 2011, and the first official bottling under the new owners appeared in 2013.

The distillery has wooden washbacks and six stills. Tamdhu uses both traditional dunnage warehouses and racked warehouses. Sherry-seasoned American and European oak casks are central to its current single malt range: the whisky spends its entire maturation in these casks.
