Special Features:

Teeling Blackpitts brings together peated barley malt and maturation in former bourbon and Sauternes white wine casks. Peat smoke enters the malt during drying. Triple distillation reduces some of the smoky character’s medicinal notes, allowing barbecue smoke to come more clearly to the fore.

The inspiration for this cask combination came from an earlier 24-year-old Teeling Single Malt, named the world’s best single malt at the 2019 World Whiskies Awards. Blackpitts is bottled at 46% without chill filtration and contains no added colouring.

The name refers to the historic Blackpitts area behind the distillery in Dublin’s Liberties district, once home to major maltings. The whiskey comes in a 0.7-litre bottle with a presentation tube.

Tasting Notes:

  • Nose: On the nose, barbecue smoke and cloves mingle with the sweetness of butterscotch and the scent of orange peel.
  • Palate: On the palate, applewood smoke and allspice meet honey, stewed pears and grilled pineapple.
  • Finish: Spicy smoke returns on the finish. Underlying woody notes linger, mingling with salted caramel.

Distillery/Bottler:

The Teeling family’s roots in Dublin whiskey-making date back to 1782, when Walter Teeling founded a distillery on Marrowbone Lane. Jack and Stephen Teeling opened their new Teeling Whiskey Distillery near this historic site in 2015. Located in the Liberties, the city’s traditional distilling district, it was the first newly built Dublin distillery in over 125 years.

Teeling works with different grain recipes, distillation methods and previous cask contents. In Blackpitts, this approach takes shape through the combination of peated malt, triple distillation and Sauternes casks alongside bourbon casks. Teeling forgoes chill filtration to preserve the body and character of its whiskeys.
