Special Features:

A single bourbon cask shapes this Linkwood from The Golden Cask range. Distilled in June 2007, the whisky matured for twelve years before House of MacDuff bottled it in February 2020. Cask CM256 yielded 276 numbered bottles of 0.7 litres each. The whisky was bottled at its cask strength of 56%, without chill filtration or added colouring.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Citrus notes and lemon cake lead the first impression, accompanied by hints of limestone and chalk. Behind them, notes of mild porridge with unripe banana, candle wax and tart apples unfold.
• Palate: The whisky is intense, creamy and distinctly sweet on the palate. Lime and lemon juice take centre stage, accompanied by tart apple and gooseberry. A little peach and a hint of apricot jam round out the fruit notes.
• Finish: The creamy sweetness continues through the medium-length finish, joined by a little candied ginger.

Distillery/Bottler:

Linkwood lies on the outskirts of Elgin in Speyside. Peter Brown founded the distillery in 1821, and production began four years later. A major expansion followed in 1971, adding a second facility with four additional stills. The older facility, thereafter known as Linkwood A, ceased regular production in 1985. After occasional experimental distillation runs in the 1990s, its buildings were demolished in 2012.

House of MacDuff is the trading name of the family-owned Cumbrae Supply Company. Its history stretches back to the 1950s; the MacDuff family took over the business in 1987. During the 1990s, its focus shifted from whisky-filled gift items to miniatures and single-cask bottlings. For The Golden Cask, the independent bottler selects casks intended to express their distillery and region of origin. Rather than chill-filtering the whisky, it uses a coarse filter simply to remove cask residue.
