Fresh watercress gives Twisted Nose its distinctive character. For this dry gin, Winchester Distillery combines it with nine other botanicals, including juniper, locally grown lavender and coriander from the South Downs. Slow distillation is intended to preserve their delicate, fresh aromas. The gin is then brought to bottling strength with mineral-rich spring water from the chalk aquifer beneath the distillery.

The gin combines intense herbal flavours with a delicate floral side. Gentle, sweetish citrus notes give way to spice before the watercress adds a peppery accent. Lavender contributes floral notes to the aromatic interplay. The blue-green bottle, with its rippled surface, takes its design inspiration from Hampshire's waterways. The gin is offered at 40% alcohol in a 0.7-litre bottle.

Distillery/Bottler:

Paul Bowler founded Winchester Distillery in 2014 in his small kitchen in central Winchester. He had previously worked as a software developer, commuting to London. His move into distilling was also a way to become more involved in the life of his home city. Early sales at farmers' markets in Hampshire and to local pubs and restaurants built close connections with the region's hospitality community.

The landscape at the western end of the South Downs Way shapes the distillery's work: chalk streams, watercress beds and local plants provide inspiration and ingredients for its spirits. Winchester Distillery combines traditional production methods with modern, energy-saving equipment. Twisted Nose is made in small batches and expresses this regional approach particularly through its fresh watercress.
