Double Crème de Cassis de Bourgogne puts blackcurrants at the heart of its character. Joseph Cartron uses the Noir de Bourgogne variety, harvesting the berries at full ripeness on the slopes of Burgundy's wine-growing region. The liqueur bears the protected geographical indication IGP Crème de Cassis de Bourgogne. Its concentrated fruit character and soft texture make it a particularly rich expression of this classic Burgundian liqueur.

In the glass, the liqueur is glossy and almost opaque garnet red, with bluish highlights and violet traces on the sides of the glass. It is suitable for a Kir with white wine as well as other cassis cocktails. The bottle offered here contains 0.7 litres at 19% alcohol.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Blackcurrant takes centre stage on the nose, with a dense, intense aroma. The concentrated fruit recalls a blackcurrant purée.
• Palate: The liqueur is full-bodied and rounded on the palate. Gentle sweetness accompanies distinctly ripe blackcurrant fruit; the texture is velvety and silky without feeling heavy. There is no harshness.
• Finish: The finish remains clear. It lasts exceptionally long, with aromatic persistence extending beyond 25 seconds.

Distillery/Bottler:

Joseph Cartron has been based in Nuits-Saint-Georges in Burgundy since 1882. Over five generations, the house has passed down its knowledge of fruit liqueurs and regional spirits. Alongside fruit crèmes and liqueurs, its range includes fruit spirits as well as Marc and Fine de Bourgogne, which are rooted in the region's winemaking tradition.

For its fruit crèmes, Cartron selects varieties and harvest times to suit the flavour of each fruit. For Crème de Cassis, the berries are steeped in high-purity agricultural alcohol, after which sugar is added. This maceration transfers the fruit aromas to the alcohol. Balancing fruit, alcohol and sugar is central to the house's approach.
