Special Features:

Lemon verbena and oak-cask maturation shape the green Verveine du Velay from Pagès. This herbal liqueur from the Auvergne is made with local verbena, other plants, spices and aromatic ingredients. Production takes around 18 months in total: maceration, during which the alcohol extracts the plants’ aromas, is followed by distillation in copper stills and at least twelve months of maturation in oak casks. The Verte is bottled at 55%.

Its flavour brings together pronounced herbal notes, minty freshness and a delicate honey sweetness. As well as being enjoyed as a digestif, the Verte can be used in cocktails. For a Verveine Fizz, it is mixed with lime juice and sugar syrup, poured over ice and topped with sparkling water.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose reveals lemon verbena, juniper and nutmeg. Pine, fresh herbs and citrus notes appear alongside white pepper.
• Palate: The liqueur is powerful and aromatic on the palate. Minty freshness meets anise and a variety of herbal notes, while a delicate honey sweetness balances the high alcohol strength.
• Finish: The finish stays fresh and distinctly herbal for a long time.

Distillery/Bottler:

The history of Distillerie Pagès in the Le Puy-en-Velay area began in 1859. Herbalist and pharmacist Joseph Rumillet-Charretier developed Verveine du Velay; in 1886, his cousin Victor Pagès took over the business and gave the distillery his name. Today, the distillery is located in Saint-Germain-Laprade.

Pagès grows the lemon verbena it uses on its own grounds. The plants are planted in June and harvested before the first frost. They are then dried away from light before the leaves are stripped by hand. The distillery thus oversees the main aromatic ingredient in its speciality from cultivation through to processing.
