Special Features:

This Tawny Port brings together selected mature red Ports from Cima Corgo and Douro Superior. The individual wines spend an average of ten years in oak casks holding around 630 litres before Taylor's blends them into the finished Port. The age statement therefore describes the average maturity of the wines in the blend, rather than an identical ageing period for every component. During cask ageing, their initially dark colour changes, developing the amber hues characteristic of Tawny Port.

The 3-litre bottle has an integrated pouring spout, making serving easier at larger gatherings around the table. The Port contains 20% alcohol and is ready to drink; neither further ageing nor decanting is necessary. Serving it slightly chilled at 12 to 16 °C brings out its aromas. It pairs with desserts featuring almonds, berries or dark chocolate, as well as strongly flavoured blue cheese. Store the bottle upright, away from light and at a consistently cool temperature.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, ripe berries mingle with a delicate nutty note. Subtle hints of chocolate, butterscotch and oak complement the bouquet.
• Palate: The Port feels soft and silky on the palate. Ripe figs and jam define its flavour.
• Finish: The flavours of ripe figs and jam linger through the long finish.

Distillery/Bottler:

Taylor's was founded in 1692; the house's history began with the English merchant Job Bearsley in Portugal. This independent family business is devoted exclusively to producing Port and operates in Porto and the Douro Valley. Its work encompasses vine growing, winemaking, ageing and blending through to bottling. Its own estates, Vargellas, Terra Feita and Junco, form the foundation of its Vintage Ports in particular.

For its aged Tawnies, Taylor's maintains extensive stocks of cask-aged Ports in cool cellars on the Atlantic coast. These reserves also provide the wines for its ten-year-old Tawny. The historic cellars in Vila Nova de Gaia are therefore not only part of the house's heritage, but also an important place for ageing its wines.
