Ube Cream Liqueur combines the purple yam used in Philippine cuisine with cream and sugarcane vodka from Negros. Destileria Barako developed the recipe in 2021, while Tyson Branz designed the bottle. Ube gives the liqueur its distinctive flavour, and cream shapes its creamy texture. It contains 17% alcohol and comes in a bottle containing 0.7 litres.

The liqueur won Double Gold and a product innovation award at the SIP Awards in 2021. In 2022, it was named the world's best cream liqueur at the World Liqueur Awards. Further honours followed in 2023: Gold at the San Francisco Spirits Competition, plus Platinum and another innovation award at the SIP Awards. It can be enjoyed chilled, neat or over ice, as well as in cocktails or poured over halo-halo, the Philippine dessert.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose opens with vanilla, caramelised yam and sweet cream, followed by delicate hints of coconut and white chocolate.
• Palate: On the palate, the liqueur is rich, creamy and smooth. Sweet ube and vanilla cream combine with a hint of toasted coconut. Its silky texture coats the palate.
• Finish: The long, velvety finish carries lingering yam and vanilla cream, complemented by gentle nutty notes.

Distillery/Bottler:

Destileria Barako was founded in 2016 to bring Philippine ingredients and the stories of local culture into spirits. Its main distillery is in Boracay, and the company operates another, automated bottling line in Manila. For Ube Cream Liqueur, it sources yams directly from Philippine farms. This collaboration supports local farming communities and links production to the cultivation of the ingredient that gives the liqueur its name. Destileria Barako makes the liqueur using a zero-waste process.
