Violet combines the fullness of Pinot Noir grapes with grapefruit and rhubarb. The grapefruit comes from Sicily and contributes fresh citrus notes and a delicate acidity. Rhubarb adds a light bitterness that balances the fruity sweetness. The result is an aperitif with a fruity core and a pleasantly bitter edge.
This violet-coloured aperitif liqueur contains 15% alcohol and comes in a bottle containing 0.7 litres. It can be enjoyed over ice or combined with tonic. To make a Violet Spritz, mix three parts Prosecco with two parts Violet and a splash of mineral water over ice, then add grapefruit and mint. Violet received 93 Falstaff points.

Samuel Neumann and Bianca Weninger are the people behind Violet. Their idea took shape at Lake Constance: they wanted to develop an aperitif that combined fruity fullness with freshness and a gently bitter note. The brand belongs to Violet Drinks GmbH, based in Konstanz. Feedback from the hospitality industry, personal tastings and discussions with retail partners played an important part in its development.
Violet works with a family-run German distillery now managed by the third generation. Distillation is part of the production process. The choice of Pinot Noir grapes, grapefruit and rhubarb shapes the interplay of fruit, acidity and bitterness.
