Kirkcowan combines ex-bourbon cask maturation with a mild, fruity Lowland character. This Single Malt comes from Bladnoch Distillery and takes its name from a nearby village in Dumfries and Galloway. Floral touches, delicate spices and a hint of oak complement its sweetness.

The whisky is bottled at 40% alcohol in a 0.7-litre bottle and is not smoky. It comes in a cylindrical presentation tube, with gold and purple brushstrokes decorating both the bottle and its packaging.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Sweet vanilla notes on the nose recall vanilla ice cream. Lemon soda, ripe banana and malt add to the gentle, balanced aroma. A hint of oak complements the fruity aromas.
• Palate: The whisky is mild on the palate, with sugared oat biscuits, candied lemon and ripe orange. Banana milk and a little grass complement this sweet, fruity combination. Floral touches and delicate spice notes round out the balanced flavour.
• Finish: A sweet note lingers through the medium-length finish.

Distillery/Bottler:

Bladnoch is in south-west Scotland and is the country's southernmost whisky distillery. Its history began in 1817, when John and Thomas McClelland received permission to distil whisky on their farm. The distillery uses water from the River Bladnoch and British-grown malt.

David Prior acquired the company in 2015 and commissioned an extensive renovation of the distillery. Following two years of work led by Master Distiller Ian MacMillan, production resumed in 2017. Dr Nick Savage joined the team as Master Distiller in 2019. Kirkcowan is a separate brand from the same distillery; differences in the production process give its spirit a different profile from the spirit offered under the Bladnoch name.
