For the eighth annual Classic Cut edition, The Macallan single malt matured in sherry-seasoned European and American oak casks and ex-bourbon casks. The Whisky Maker selected a bottling strength of 52.4%. This non-smoky whisky is offered without chill filtration or added colouring, in gift packaging.

Its strength makes the effect of adding water particularly clear: undiluted, vanilla stands out alongside citrus peel and sweet oak. When diluted to around 40%, tropical fruit and lemon become more prominent. The balance between sweet and fresh notes shifts within the same whisky.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, rich vanilla, orchard fruit and marzipan mingle with citrus peel, fresh herbs and sweet oak.
• Palate: On the palate, baked vanilla custard and milk chocolate meet sweet green apple; oak spice balances the sweetness.
• Finish: The long finish is rich and sweet. Orchard fruit, vanilla and caramel linger alongside spicy oak, while floral honey becomes increasingly prominent.

Distillery/Bottler:

Alexander Reid founded The Macallan beside the River Spey; the distillery received its distilling licence in 1824. Historic Easter Elchies House stands at the heart of the estate. The present distillery on the estate opened in 2018.

Oak cask selection plays a central role at The Macallan. For Classic Cut 2024, whisky from sherry-seasoned European and American oak casks was brought together with whisky from ex-bourbon casks. This is an official bottling by The Macallan; the brand has been part of Edrington’s portfolio since 1999.
