Special Features:

The Mexicano agave variety takes centre stage in this Joven mezcal. It belongs to the species Agave rhodacantha. Mexicano agaves reach maturity after eight to ten years of growth. The mezcal comes from Candelaria Yegolé in Oaxaca and was produced by Rómulo Sánchez Parada. A tahona, a traditional stone mill, crushed the agaves before double distillation in copper stills.

This batch was produced in October 2018. It bears the lot number D5011-M and comprises 669 numbered bottles. The mezcal was bottled at 48.5% in 0.7-litre bottles. Its smoky character combines with roasted agave and fresh herbs, alongside fruity and herbaceous traits.

Distillery/Bottler:

Rey Campero has its roots in Candelaria Yegolé in Oaxaca's Sierra Sur. Founder Rómulo Sánchez Parada learned to make mezcal from his father and was already working in the family distillery as a young man. After spending several years in North Carolina, he returned to Oaxaca in 2003. The brand name roughly means “King of the Land” and refers to its rural origins.

This edition was produced and bottled by Destiladora de Mezcal «Sánchez y Asociados» S. de R.L. de C.V. Tahona milling and double copper distillation are among the specific production steps used for this bottling.
