Special Features:

Brûlée Royale captures the caramelised sweetness of crème brûlée in a limited-edition composition created by whisky maker Samuel Travers. The blended malt was bottled in August 2025 at 49%, with an edition of 8,556 bottles. It is non-chill-filtered and has its natural colour.

The recipe comprises 53.3% Benrinnes from first-fill bourbon casks, 39% Clynelish from second-fill barrels made of new American oak, 7.2% Speyburn from a refill American oak hogshead and 0.5% 21-year-old Ardbeg from a recharred American oak barrel. The ex-bourbon casks contribute to the creamy vanilla note, while specially prepared American white oak casks add crisp toffee aromas. Danish pastry and burnt sugar complete the dessert-like profile.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose opens with crème brûlée over crisp caramel and buttery Danish pastry, followed by poached pear and fresh vanilla.
• Palate: The whisky is dense and creamy on the palate. Rich cream, honeyed malt and grilled peach lead to vanilla custard and the opulent fruitiness of tarte Tatin.
• Finish: The long, silky and harmonious finish lingers with gentle nutmeg spice, burnt toffee, banana split aromas and a delicate note of oak.

Distillery/Bottler:

Compass Box was founded in 2000 and composes its whiskies in its own Blending Room in Richmond near London. The company maintains its own stocks of maturing whisky in Scotland and develops its bottlings by deliberately combining selected spirits and cask types. For Brûlée Royale, Samuel Travers led the composition of malts from Benrinnes, Clynelish, Speyburn and Ardbeg.
