Special Features:

Glasgow 1770 Peated is the smoky single malt in the Signature Range. Its British malted barley is peated to 50 ppm with peat from Aberdeenshire. After at least 72 hours of fermentation, the distillery slowly double-distils it in small copper pot stills. A low cut point for the heart of the spirit contributes to the distillate’s robust, oily and slightly waxy character.

The whisky matures first in new American white oak casks, then spends eight to twelve months in Pedro Ximénez sherry hogsheads. Dark fruit, toffee, vanilla and orange accompany the peat smoke. The 0.05-litre miniature contains the same 46% bottling as the regular release; the whisky is not chill-filtered and has no added colouring.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, sweet smoke and toffee mingle with vanilla, dark dried fruit and black pepper, with a hint of flambéed orange.
• Palate: The palate brings tobacco leaf, dark toffee and cocoa nibs, set against soft peat, earthy notes and a hint of sage.
• Finish: The finish is long and soft, with salted caramel, liquorice and lingering spice.

Distillery/Bottler:

Liam Hughes and Mike Hayward founded The Glasgow Distillery Company Ltd. in 2012 to bring single malt production back to Glasgow. The name Glasgow 1770 recalls an earlier Glasgow distillery, founded in 1770 and closed in 1902. Today, the independent distillery operates in the Hillington district.

Each year, the distillery produces three single malt styles: unpeated double-distilled whisky, unpeated triple-distilled whisky and peated double-distilled whisky. Glasgow 1770 Peated represents the third style. In Hillington, the distilling team works with little automation, while an in-house cooper tends the casks on site.
