Special Features:

This rich and smoky single malt represents the double-distilled, peated style within Glasgow 1770’s three-part Signature Range. The distillery uses British barley peated to 50 ppm with peat from Aberdeenshire, and fermentation in the washbacks lasts at least 72 hours. This is followed by two slow distillations in small copper pot stills. For this style, the distillery collects the heart of the run between 72 and 57% ABV. This low cut point contributes to the new make spirit’s rich, oily and waxy character.

Maturation takes place in two stages: the whisky first matures in 200-litre casks made from new American white oak and is then finished for eight to twelve months in 250-litre hogsheads that previously held Pedro Ximénez sherry. This period therefore refers to the finish rather than the whisky’s total age. The bottling carries no age statement because its age can vary between batches while the intended flavour profile remains consistent.

The whisky is bottled at 46% without added colouring or chill filtration. Sweet peat smoke and the pronounced influence of new oak meet dark fruit, toffee, cocoa, tobacco and spices.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, sweet smoke and rich toffee combine with vibrant vanilla, dark dried fruit, freshly cracked black pepper and a delicate note of flambéed orange.
• Palate: On the palate, tobacco leaf, dark toffee and cocoa nibs mingle with soft, sweet peat, while earthy nuances and a hint of sage add bitter-edged depth.
• Finish: The finish is long and smooth, with salted caramel, liquorice and lingering spice.

Distillery/Bottler:

The Glasgow Distillery Company began distilling in Glasgow in 2014 and was the city’s first independent single malt distillery in more than a century. The Glasgow 1770 name recalls the historic Glasgow Distillery Company, which was founded in Dundashill in 1770 and closed in 1902. The present-day company produces this whisky in Glasgow and releases it as its own distillery bottling.
