Special Features:

Glasgow 1770 The Original matures in first-fill ex-bourbon casks before spending around six months in new American white oak casks. The 0.05-litre miniature contains the same unpeated single malt as the larger bottle. It is bottled at 46%, without chill filtration or added colouring.

The wort ferments for at least 72 hours with MG Pinnacle Distillers Yeast. The resulting wash is then distilled slowly, twice, in small copper pot stills. Slow distillation encourages dark-fruit aromas, while the choice of spirit cut gives the new make a slightly waxy texture on the palate. Citrus fruit, vanilla, butterscotch, oak and balanced peppery spice also shape the finished whisky.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose brings dried dark fruit with a hint of tropical fruit, alongside pastry, oak and freshly cut grass.
• Palate: On the palate, butterscotch and the caramelised crust of crème brûlée meet pear, dried figs, dates and raisins. Almonds, honey and creamy butter pastry round out the fruity flavours.
• Finish: The long finish recalls orange marmalade and nutmeg. Oak notes and gentle spice linger.

Distillery/Bottler:

Liam Hughes and Mike Hayward founded The Glasgow Distillery Company in 2012 to bring single malt production back to Glasgow. The name Glasgow 1770 recalls an earlier city distillery whose history ran from 1770 to 1902. Today's independent distillery operates in Hillington with little automation and its own cooper. Released in 2018, The Original was its first whisky and represents the double-distilled, unpeated style within the Signature Range.
