Special Features:

This five-year-old single malt matured entirely in Oloroso sherry butt 244. It was distilled on 11 March 2020 and bottled on 21 July 2025. The single cask yielded 283 bottles at a natural cask strength of 59.6%; the whisky is neither chill-filtered nor coloured.

The bottling belongs to The Awakening Series, curated by Kirsch Import as a selection of limited single casks. The whisky from cask 244 was bottled for Whisky Live Germany 2025.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose combines raisins and dates with dark caramel, brown sugar and orange peel. Dark chocolate, leather and spicy oak emerge in the background.
• Palate: The whisky is oily and full-bodied on the palate. Dark fruit, toffee and vanilla meet Oloroso sherry spice, oak and a touch of espresso, while the high alcohol strength is well integrated.
• Finish: The finish is long and warming, with cocoa, sherry, caramelised nuts and gentle spice. A slightly dry oak note lingers.

Distillery/Bottler:

Lochlea is an independent farm distillery in Ayrshire, Scotland, and grows all the barley used for its single malt on its own estate. Distillation takes place on site, where the whisky is also matured, allowing its journey to be traced from field to bottle. Robert Burns lived and worked on this farm from 1777 to 1784, long before whisky was produced there. The whisky from cask 244 is an original bottling by Lochlea Distilling Co. Ltd.
