The Sowing Edition Third Crop brings Lochlea’s three-part spring series to a close. It reflects the sowing of barley on the farm and forms part of Lochlea’s limited seasonal releases, which explore different cask maturation styles throughout the farming year.

Like its two predecessors, this release matured entirely in first-fill bourbon barrels. These casks complement the spirit: the apple notes in Lochlea’s new make pair with the vanilla aromas typical of bourbon casks. The whisky is bottled at 46%, without chill filtration or added colouring.

• Nose: On the nose, almond aromas mingle with the scent of rose petals.
• Palate: A lively apple blossom note unfolds on the palate, accompanied by white pepper and crisp pear.
• Finish: The finish is gentle, recalling warm straw and freshly cut grass.

Distillery/Bottler:

Lochlea Distillery is a farm distillery in Ayrshire, Scotland. All the barley for its single malt is sown, grown and harvested on its own land, keeping the raw material traceable from field to bottle. The farm was previously a family-run dairy operation, where barley and other crops grown in rotation provided feed for the livestock. Since 2015, Lochlea has grown barley specifically for malting.

Malting barley quality shapes farming decisions alongside yield. Cover crops, farmyard manure and careful soil management are intended to maintain long-term soil health. In this way, Lochlea links its own barley cultivation with the production of its single malt.
