Special Features:

For batch CS/GD06, Nc'nean combined whisky from 55% STR red wine casks, 43% ex-bourbon casks and 2% ex-Oloroso sherry casks. STR refers to red wine casks whose interiors have been shaved, toasted and re-charred. The distillery filled the casks between October 2017 and December 2019. The whisky was bottled at cask strength in August 2023 at 59.6%, with a release of 4,998 bottles.

Created for the German market, this special release is made from unpeated organic Scottish barley. Nc'nean used Anchor and Fermentis yeasts for this batch. The whisky brings together bright fruit, herbs and spices, alongside rye-bread notes. It contains no added colouring and has not been chill-filtered.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Heather and other herbs appear on the nose alongside lemon, peach and apricot. Wood and spices add to the aroma.
• Palate: The whisky is full-bodied and sweet on the palate. Citrus fruit and salted caramel combine with oak, nutmeg and pepper.
• Finish: Herbs and spices remain noticeable through the long finish, with the spice lingering.

Distillery/Bottler:

Annabel Thomas began establishing Nc'nean on Scotland's west coast in 2013. Spirit first flowed from the distillery's stills in 2017. The distillery uses only unpeated organic Scottish barley and powers its operations with renewable energy. Its whisky bottles are made entirely from recycled glass.

To create its house style, Nc'nean gives the mash a long rest and ferments it for 68 to 114 hours. Two types of yeast and a narrow cut during distillation help produce a fruit-led spirit. The distillery stores its casks on site; ex-bourbon, STR red wine and ex-Oloroso sherry casks are part of its usual selection. Nc'nean bottled batch CS/GD06 itself.
