This gift set contains a bottle of Nikka Coffey Grain holding 0.7 litres and two glasses. Corn and malted barley are distilled in traditional Coffey column stills at Miyagikyo Distillery before the whisky is matured in bourbon casks. Its character is defined by a creamy texture, bright fruit, cereal sweetness and precise spice.

Nikka introduced Coffey Grain in 2012 to showcase the distinctive character produced by these historic stills. The spirit, made predominantly from corn, is also matured in refill, remade and re-charred American oak casks. The traditional Coffey stills are less efficient than modern column stills, but preserve pronounced aromas from the raw materials and contribute to the whisky's characteristic creamy texture.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose opens with ripe pear, cherry and exotic fruits. Blood orange and lemon add bright accents, while delicate floral notes lend further lightness to the fresh bouquet.
• Palate: On the palate, the whisky is juicy and pleasing. Intense notes of ripe fruit, banana and pear nectar meet caramel, liquorice and star anise, while a creamy freshness shapes the mid-palate.
• Finish: Pear and bourbon vanilla remain present throughout the long finish. A balanced, light bitterness provides the final accent.

Distillery/Bottler:

Nikka Whisky Distilling Co. Ltd. produces and bottles this Coffey Grain. Masataka Taketsuru learned to make grain whisky in a Coffey still in Scotland in 1919. In 1934, he founded the company that preceded Nikka and established Yoichi Distillery. Today, Nikka's Japanese distilleries include Yoichi and Miyagikyo Distillery, which opened in 1969. The Coffey stills imported from Scotland in the 1960s are used at Miyagikyo to produce grain whisky from corn and other cereals.
