Special Features:

Cask marrying lies at the heart of From the Barrel: Nikka combines more than 100 matured malt and grain whiskies, then returns the blend to cask for several months. Malt whiskies from Yoichi and Miyagikyo, together with Nikka’s distinctive Coffey grain whiskies, make up the largest share. The whisky is ultimately bottled at 51.4% in a 0.5-litre bottle.

The distinctive small, square bottle follows the design concept of a compact “block of whisky”. This variant comes in its 2026 presentation with gift packaging.

Orange, apricot, vanilla and dark chocolate form the fruity, sweet side. Pepper, oak and caramelised apple give definition to the full-bodied, dense character; fruit, vanilla and dry wood spice remain present throughout the long finish.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose combines rich oak aromas with vanilla, dark chocolate and orange peel, complemented by a grain note.
• Palate: The whisky is dense and sweet on the palate, with a firm oak structure; pepper and caramelised apple add spicy and fruity accents.
• Finish: The long finish remains fruity and spicy, with ripe fruit, vanilla and dry wood spice; a bitter edge of oak provides the final accent.

Distillery/Bottler:

Nikka traces its roots to Dai Nippon Kaju, founded by Masataka Taketsuru in 1934; the Yoichi distillery was completed that same year. Miyagikyo followed as a second malt distillery in 1969, and Nikka launched From the Barrel in 1985. For this bottling, the company’s own blending team combines malt and grain whiskies, allows the married blend to mature further in cask and bottles it in-house.
