Joseph Cartron selects cocoa beans from Côte d’Ivoire for its brown cocoa liqueur. Careful processing brings the flavour of cocoa into the liqueur. In the glass, it has a mahogany-brown colour with old-gold highlights. It contains 25% alcohol and is offered here in a 0.7-litre bottle.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The aroma is open and inviting. Roasted notes mingle with cake, vanilla and gingerbread.
• Palate: The first impression on the palate is syrupy, creamy and full-bodied, with notes of fresh butter. The texture coats the palate, while the individual impressions come together in balance.
• Finish: The liqueur remains rich and soft on the finish, with a sweet, dessert-like impression.

Distillery/Bottler:

Joseph Cartron has been rooted in Nuits-Saint-Georges in Burgundy since 1882. The house produces fruit crèmes, liqueurs, aperitifs and fruit spirits. Judith Cartron leads the business in its fifth generation. Variety and origin play a central role in fruit selection: the range includes vineyard peaches from Burgundy, mirabelle plums from Lorraine and apricots from the Monts du Lyonnais.

The house develops its own recipes for its fruit crèmes and liqueurs, combining inherited expertise with new flavour ideas. Long-standing relationships with fruit growers and distillers are part of this approach. For Cacao Brun, ingredient selection extends beyond France: the cocoa beans come from Côte d’Ivoire.
