L’Onctueux Macadamia & Caramel brings rum and dairy cream together in a creamy liqueur. Its recipe pairs the nutty flavour of macadamia with the sweetness of caramel. Bottled at 17% alcohol, it belongs to Rivière du Mât’s L’Onctueux range and comes in a bottle containing 0.7 litres.

The liqueur can be enjoyed neat and chilled or over ice. Once opened, the bottle should be kept in the refrigerator. It should not be mixed with acidic drinks or drinks containing lemon. The bottle has a matt black finish with gold and orange accents.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose combines intense roasted macadamia notes with sweet caramel. A light aroma of toasted bread adds another layer.
• Palate: On the palate, the liqueur is creamy and velvety. Macadamia and sweet caramel balance each other, accompanied by a subtle rum note.
• Finish: The long, gentle finish brings caramel and macadamia together and fades with a creamy texture.

Distillery/Bottler:

Founded in 1886, Rivière du Mât is one of the oldest distilleries still operating on Réunion. Located in Saint-Benoît, it makes its traditional rums from molasses derived from sugar cane grown on the island. The L’Onctueux range extends the house’s rum offering with liqueurs made from dairy cream and rum.

The distillery uses open fermentation vessels in its rum production. The distillation team then controls the separation of aroma compounds in a column with multiple plates. Distillation residues are also put to use: fermentation produces biogas for steam generation, while the remaining fertilising nutrients are returned to the sugar cane fields.
