Special Features:

A second maturation in casks previously used for very old Pineau des Charentes shapes this Cognac from the Cask Collection. It comes from a single estate in Grande Champagne and is made entirely from Ugni-Blanc grapes. Seven years in French oak were followed by a further 45 months in the Pineau casks. The finishing period therefore accounts for a substantial part of its time in wood.

The initial maturation began in 2011; on 22 May 2018, the Cognac was transferred to the former Pineau casks. In February 2022, it was bottled at 47% in numbered bottles containing 0.5 litres each. The entire edition comprises 960 bottles. No sugar or other additives were added, and its honey-coloured hue also comes from cask maturation.

Its character combines pronounced fruitiness with freshness and floral delicacy. Alongside apricot, mirabelle plum and honey notes are delicate hints of linden blossom and sweet touches of candied fruit and gingerbread. In the overall aromatic profile, fruit initially takes the lead before the floral notes emerge.

Tasting Notes:

  • Nose: On the nose, the Cognac is soft and velvety, with aromas reminiscent of roasted apricots.
  • Palate: On the palate, sweet fruit notes and delicate spices are well balanced.
  • Finish: The finish lingers for a long time and fades gently.

Distillery/Bottler:

Bache-Gabrielsen has both French and Norwegian roots. Thomas Bache-Gabrielsen came to Cognac from Norway in 1903 and, together with his compatriot Peter Rustad, acquired the Cognac house A. Edmond Dupuy in 1905. The house had been founded in 1852. It developed into the family business Bache-Gabrielsen, whose management passed to the fourth generation with Hervé Bache-Gabrielsen in 2009.

The house operates as a merchant and maturation specialist, working with winegrowers who distil their own wines. Selecting the eaux-de-vie, overseeing their cask maturation and blending the Cognacs are among the cellar master's responsibilities. Bache-Gabrielsen considers both the choice of oak and the humidity of its cellars. Since 2015, the company has had three purpose-built cellars in Louzac-Saint-André near Cognac: two for storage and one for blending.
