Special Features:

Grape juice and Cognac form the basis of this red Pineau des Charentes, with Merlot as the main grape variety. After blending, the Pineau matures for at least 18 months in Limousin oak casks. Its sweetness combines with red fruit notes, particularly cherries and raspberries.

The Pineau is only lightly filtered to preserve its aroma. A small natural deposit may therefore form in the bottle, without affecting its flavour or shelf life. It is bottled at 17% alcohol in a bottle containing 0.75 litres.

The Pineau can be served well chilled or over ice as an aperitif. It also works as a base for cocktails.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose offers intense aromas of ripe berries.
• Palate: The Pineau is soft, rounded and sweet on the palate, with delicate Cognac notes.
• Finish: Sweetness lingers through the long finish.

Distillery/Bottler:

Vallein Tercinier is based at Domaine des Forges in Chermignac. Louis Vallein acquired the estate in 1791; Georges Vallein founded the trading house in 1850 and began selling Cognac in bottles. As an estate owner, distiller and merchant, he laid the foundations for the family business.

The house's history brings together work in the vineyard and distillery with the blending and maturation of Cognac. In the post-war decades, eight stills supplied both the house itself and other trading houses. In the 1990s, Louis and Catherine Tercinier divided the agricultural and commercial responsibilities between them. From distillation to bottling, the company concentrates its production in Chermignac.
