For this Vieux Pineau Rouge, Vallein Tercinier blends grape must with Cognac and matures the blend in oak casks for more than five years. Merlot is the predominant grape variety. The bottling carries the protected designation of origin Pineau des Charentes and has an alcohol content of 17%.

Cherry and raspberry fruitiness is joined by more mature notes of prunes, cocoa and almonds. Well chilled or over ice, this Pineau works as an aperitif and a base for cocktails. It can also be served at room temperature as a digestif alongside dark chocolate and white-mould cheeses. The bottle contains 0.75 litres and comes in gift packaging.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The powerful bouquet combines black cherries and sour cherries with prunes, cocoa and almonds.
• Palate: The palate reveals sweet, stewed prunes and fruit confectionery. Towards the end, the flavour recalls port.
• Finish: The long finish leaves a subtle sweetness.

Distillery/Bottler:

Vallein Tercinier is based at the Domaine des Forges in Chermignac, in the Saintonge region. Louis Vallein acquired the estate in 1791. His grandson Georges founded the trading house in 1850 and began selling Cognac in bottles. This brought winegrowing, distillation and trading together within the family business.

Expertise in creating and ageing blends is passed down within the family and among its cellar masters. From distillation to bottling, the house operates in Chermignac. Alongside Cognac, its range includes Pineau des Charentes and liqueurs; the Pineaux are matured and bottled on the estate.
