Special Features:

J.Bally VO is a three-year-old Rhum Agricole made from pure sugarcane juice and carrying the protected designation of origin AOC Martinique. Its pyramid-shaped bottle reprises a design from the 1930s. The rum is bottled at 45% in a bottle containing 0.7 litres and comes in gift packaging.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose combines bold woody notes and softly integrated oak tannins with jammy fruit. With air, fruit compote, cooked apple, cinnamon and nutmeg emerge, followed by ripe, sweet sugarcane.
• Palate: The rum feels soft, velvety and dense on the palate. Woody notes unfold slowly, mingling with milk chocolate, light-coloured nuts with an oily feel, vanilla and caramel. Ripe sugarcane remains discernible underneath.
• Finish: The finish stays soft, developing a slightly firmer woody note towards the end.

Distillery/Bottler:

In 1917, Jacques Bally acquired the Habitation de Lajus in the municipality of Le Carbet on Martinique and converted its sugar factory into a distillery. The engineer favoured a Creole distillation column and introduced oak-cask maturation for his rums in 1924. Cask ageing thus became part of the house's history early on. After the Second World War, his son Jean joined the business, further developed its facilities and expanded exports, including to Japan.

The original Bally distillery no longer exists. Its preserved distillation column, however, continues to operate at the Saint James site in Sainte-Marie.
