Special Features:

Bielle Ambré Premium combines double distillation with a short period of wood maturation. Made from sugar cane juice on Marie-Galante, this rhum agricole belongs to Rasta Morris, the rum range of Belgian independent bottler Asta Morris. After distillation, it spent a few months in a large foudre previously used for bourbon. This contact with the cask brings wood and spice notes to the fresh sugar cane character without making it a long-aged rum.

Released in 2020, this bottling has an alcohol content of 52%. Its colour comes from maturation; no colouring is added, and the rum is not chill-filtered. The bottle contains 0.7 litres and is offered without gift packaging.

Tasting Notes:

  • Nose: Initially, the wood notes are dry and dense, accompanied by fresh sugar cane and subtly spicy hints of its pressed fibres. With air, the wood recedes: the sugar cane becomes softer and sweeter, while tannins and the scent of mirabelle plum jam emerge.
  • Palate: The rum initially feels light and fleeting on the tongue. Gently spiced wood and small bursts of pepper then emerge. The oak notes grow warmer and develop into impressions of peanut and tonka bean, joined by an almost brioche-like note.
  • Finish: Fresh sugar cane juice returns distinctly on the finish. Slightly bitter lime peel complements the vegetal aftertaste.

Distillery/Bottler:

Bielle is situated in the centre of Marie-Galante, an island in French Guadeloupe. The estate's history began in 1769 with coffee cultivation; sugar cane growing and sugar production were among the activities added later. Rum production has been officially documented since 1910. Today, the distillery turns selected, hand-cut sugar cane into rhum agricole. It uses well water from the island during cane pressing and rainwater to reduce the spirit to bottling strength. Premium production includes double distillation in a column still and an alembic.

Asta Morris was founded in Belgium in 2009 by Bert Bruyneel. He initially wrote about whisky and organised tastings; in 2010, he released his first bottling, a Glenlivet distilled in 1977. This whisky focus developed into a broader range of independently bottled spirits. Bruyneel offers rum under names including Rasta Morris. For this range, he uses no additives, placing the selected spirits and their cask maturation at the heart of the offering.
