Special Features:

SAMPAN Classic White Rhum is made from fresh sugarcane juice rather than molasses. Locally grown sugarcane and distillation in a French copper column bring together Vietnamese raw materials and French distilling technology. Floral aromas and fresh fruit define this white rum, complemented by a light spiciness.

The rum was distilled in August 2019 and bottled in September 2020 at 43%. The bottle contains 0.7 litres and comes in gift packaging. Its floral character can be explored neat; in cocktails, it also contributes the aromas of the sugarcane distillate.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose reveals intense notes of white flowers and violets, accompanied by fresh sugarcane.
• Palate: Intense floral aromas define the rum on the palate. Jasmine and violets meet hints of fresh fruit.
• Finish: The long finish is lightly spicy, with notes of walnuts and pepper.

Distillery/Bottler:

Distillerie d'Indochine lies around 15 kilometres south of Hoi An on Vietnam's central coast, between sugarcane fields and the sea. Antoine, Ian and Julien founded it in 2018. Distillation and maturation are overseen by Antoine Poircuitte, who comes from a family of distillers and took part in the family's annual distillation even as a child.

The distillery works closely with local sugarcane farmers and selects the plants in the field according to defined criteria. No chemical treatments or pesticides are used in cultivation. The sugarcane is harvested by hand and pressed within 24 hours of cutting. Fermentation of the juice is followed by distillation in an entirely copper column from France. The brand name Sampan refers to a traditional Southeast Asian coastal boat, which also adorns the bottles.
