Maman Brigitte combines eight-year-old rum from Barbados, five-year-old rum from the Dominican Republic and three-year-old rum from Jamaica. Bert Bruyneel carefully selected the components and their proportions for this blend. Made from molasses-based rums, it combines tropical fruit with a rounded texture and gentle spice.

Bruyneel adds 3 grams of sugar per litre to give the rum additional roundness. At 43%, Maman Brigitte is suitable both for drinking neat and for cocktails such as a Rum Old Fashioned or a Zombie. The bottle contains 0.7 litres.

Introduced in 2018, this bottling takes its name from a figure in Haitian Vodou. A rooster, flowers and other ornamental motifs form part of the bottle design.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose opens with light orchard fruit and becomes increasingly tropical with aeration. Pineapple and mango emerge, accompanied by a hint of guava. Mild spices add a pastry-like accent.
• Palate: On the palate, the rum is very soft and rounded. Caramel and tropical fruit mingle with mild woody notes, vanilla and gentle spices. A hint of coconut complements the tropical fruit, which now has a slightly dried character.
• Finish: Pastry-like notes and gentle spice linger on the finish.

Distillery/Bottler:

Asta Morris is an independent bottler based in Ingooigem, Belgium. Bert Bruyneel founded the company in 2009, having already hosted tastings and written about whisky. Its first bottling followed in 2010: a Glenlivet distilled in 1977.

From its origins in whisky, Bruyneel developed a range encompassing rum, gin and French spirits. Maman Brigitte centres on blending different Caribbean rums: Bruyneel developed the blend from selected components, then adjusted their proportions and the small sugar addition to achieve the desired roundness.
