Mount Gay Eclipse brings together two distillation methods: traditional column stills and copper double retort pot stills produce the spirits used in the blend. The distillates mature separately for two years in former American whiskey casks. The charred interiors of these casks contribute oak and lightly toasted notes to the rum.

Alongside banana and vanilla, its aromatic range includes almond and dark chocolate. Fruity and floral impressions of apricot and blossoms, together with subtle smokiness, complement this golden-amber rum. No sugar is added.

With its light to medium body, Eclipse works well in classic rum cocktails, such as Rum Punch, or with soda water. This bottling contains 1 litre at 40% alcohol and comes without gift packaging.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Vanilla and banana lead on the nose. Behind them are caramel, summer fruits and spices, with a light hint of smoke.
• Palate: The rum is smooth and balanced on the palate, with delicate fruit notes. Oak and lightly charred, toasted notes provide a contrast, while the body remains light to medium.
• Finish: The finish is smooth and fruity.

Distillery/Bottler:

Mount Gay is based in St. Lucy in northern Barbados, and the distillery's history dates back to 1703. Originally called Mount Gilboa, the estate was renamed in honour of Sir John Gay Alleyne, who played a decisive role in developing the business.

Mount Gay makes its rum using molasses from Barbados and the Caribbean, along with water from its own well, filtered through the island's coral rock. Its fermentation methods differ according to the intended distillation: closed fermentation with a proprietary yeast culture is used for column-still distillation, while fermentation for pot-still distillation begins in open vessels, with local yeasts also playing a part. Master Blender Trudiann Branker is responsible for blending the rums, with Eclipse serving as a reference point for the house style.
