Special Features:

This rum from The Rum Trail combines tropical maturation in heavily charred new American oak with a longer period of ageing in Scotland. The first 3 years were followed by another 6 years in ex-bourbon barrels. The rum was distilled in 2015 and bottled in 2025 after a total of 9 years. The release comprises 400 bottles, each containing 0.7 litres at 48% alcohol.

The raw material is molasses made from local sugar cane; natural fermentation is followed by distillation in a three-column still. Alongside mango, the concentrated fruit character includes berries and syrup from preserved fruit. Notes of confectionery and vanilla cream complement these impressions. The rum is neither chill-filtered nor coloured.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, warm mango notes and apple juice mingle with white chocolate and a hint of star anise. Generous notes of vanilla extract and cake batter then emerge.
• Palate: On the palate, caramel and syrup from preserved fruit meet tart tropical fruit. Grapefruit and sweet coffee provide accents within a dense texture reminiscent of dark sugar syrup.
• Finish: Grapefruit lingers on the finish with a bitter note, accompanied by an impression of sponge cake batter.

Distillery/Bottler:

Elixir Distillers is the independent bottler behind The Rum Trail. The range explores the different styles of rum associated with its places of origin. Sukhinder Singh and his team select spirits whose character they may complement through further cask maturation or blending. The aim of further ageing in Europe is not to achieve the most dominant finish possible, but to develop the rum that has already matured in a tropical climate.

Singh’s experience spans his parents’ spirits shop, the development of an online retailer, the selection and bottling of spirits, and the founding of his own distilleries. For The Elixir Trails, he works with a network of distilleries and knowledgeable enthusiasts to discover suitable bottlings beyond familiar brands.
