Diplomático Reserva Exclusiva combines predominantly pot-distilled rums with lighter spirits from column stills. The selected rums mature for up to twelve years in small oak casks before being blended. Cane sugar is added, so the pronounced sweetness is not solely the result of cask maturation.

Reserva Exclusiva belongs to Diplomático's Tradition range and can be enjoyed neat or in cocktails such as an Old Fashioned or Manhattan. Its awards include a double gold medal at the 2016 San Francisco World Spirits Competition. This version contains 0.7 litres of rum at 40% alcohol and is supplied without a gift tube.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose combines toffee, orange peel and liquorice.
• Palate: On the palate, the rum is full-bodied, velvety and distinctly sweet. Toffee and fudge mingle with chocolate and a little spice. Vanilla and fudge come to the fore, followed by candied oranges.
• Finish: The long finish reveals a gentle spiciness.

Distillery/Bottler:

The rum is produced at Destilerías Unidas S.A. (DUSA) in La Miel, at the foot of the Venezuelan Andes. The Diplomático brand has belonged to Brown-Forman since January 2023; production and maturation have remained at the original distillery in Venezuela.

The distillery uses three different distillation systems: pot stills, batch-operated Batch Kettle stills and continuous columns. These provide both heavy and light rum styles for blending. Diplomático mainly uses former bourbon and whiskey casks for maturation. During subsequent blending, spirits from different production methods, cask types, ages and intensities are balanced with one another.

The figure of Don Juancho on the label refers to the Mantuanos, Venezuelan nobles of the 19th century. Their travels, trade in regional products and role as ambassadors for their homeland inspired the name Diplomático.
