Equiano Rum Ominira - African-Caribbean Rum
Volume: 0.7 liters | Alcohol content: 52% | Not chill-filtered | No coloring
Description
Inspired by the life story of former slave and freedom fighter Olaudah Equiano, Equiano marries rum from Africa and the Caribbean. Now the brand of industry greats Ian Burrell and Richard Seale is opening a new chapter: Equiano Ominira is the first and limited bottling of the three-part Legacy Blend series.
The vintage blend combines molasses rum from the renowned distilleries Foursquare from Barbados and Gray's from Mauritius. Matured for at least eleven years in tropical bourbon and cognac barrels and refined in sherry casks, the ultra-premium rum achieves great depth and fullness - and an "outstanding" gold status at the International Wine & Spirit Competition 2024.
Its age alludes to the life story of Olaudah Equiano as well as its 52 percent alcohol by volume: Equiano was taken into slavery at the age of eleven and died a free man at the age of 52. The name of the bottling is also dedicated to freedom: In Yoruba, a language spoken by many in West Africa, where Equiano originated, Ominira means "freedom".
