Maturation in Limousin oak casks shapes this seven-year-old J. Bally. Made from pure sugar cane juice, this Rhum Agricole from Martinique carries the AOC Martinique designation of origin. Its character combines wood and spice with dark dried fruit.

The distinctive pyramid-shaped bottle dates back to a design by Jacques Bally from the 1930s. This bottling contains 0.7 litres at 45% alcohol and is offered with gift packaging.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, woody notes and undergrowth mingle with cinnamon and nutmeg.
• Palate: The palate reveals figs and dates alongside a woody flavour and notes of sugar cane syrup.

Distillery/Bottler:

J. Bally has its roots at Habitation Lajus in Le Carbet, on Martinique's northern Caribbean coast. Jacques Bally, an engineer trained at the École centrale de Paris, converted the former sugar factory into a distillery. He developed his own Creole distillation column and installed a steam engine. Inspired by Cognac production, he began ageing some of his rums in oak casks in the 1920s, becoming one of the pioneers of aged Rhum Agricole on Martinique.

The historic distillery is no longer operating. J. Bally is now produced at Saint James in Sainte-Marie, while the brand retains its own identity and production methods. Aged rums and vintage bottlings are at the heart of its range.
